The sound of little pitter-patters always echoed through the tiny little shop on Walnut Street. However, it wasn’t a tiny little shop. In 1999, The Primitive Peddler, Inc. was brought to life in a single story, three bedroom house! And those little pitter-patters could have only belonged to one person, ME, Alexx McKenna! At this time, I would have only been 2-years-old, but boy did I feel like I was running the place myself! Don’t let me fool you though, my mom Shelly, was the mastermind behind it all! She had her “shop” packed with home goods from floor to ceiling and her business was booming! In fact, she packed up her store and moved right down the street to a bigger location in 2001! That store was like my second home! When I wasn’t at my real home, I was at the store pricing merchandise, decorating, & helping customers. I was running the cash register when I was only knee-high to a grasshopper! In fact, I had to have a step stool just so the customer’s could see the tiny little cashier that was assisting them with their purchase. I think many people thought that my excitement for the business would eventually die off, but year after year and birthday after birthday, my love for “The Peddler” just kept growing!
Now here we are, TWENTY-FOUR YEARS later, and The Primitive Peddler, Inc. is still a part of me! However, those 24 years are filled with lots of hills, curves, and bumps! In 2016, I graduated high school with plans to attend college to become a dental hygienist. After earning my Associate’s Degree, the dental hygiene program denied my entrance into their school. At that point, I felt defeated and completely lost. However, I decided to pursue a nursing degree because it lined up with the prerequisite courses that I had already taken. So in 2019, I graduated with my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and took a job at a local hospital in labor and delivery. Fast forward 3 months later and I was completely miserable in my job. I missed my home away from home. After lots of prayer and deliberation, I knew what the Lord was telling me to do. So in March 2020, I left my job at the hospital. Come full circle and I’M BACK! Although my pitter-patters may be a little bigger and a little louder, I still hold just as much excitement for this adventure as I did when I was 2! What my mom accomplished with “The Peddler” these last 24 years has been nothing short of amazing, but I cannot wait to see what else is around the corner. I have big, big plans and SO many exciting things to share with you! By combining my love for fashion & vintage, antique goods, I hope that you and I can cultivate not only a business/customer relationship, but a friendship. So stay awhile & browse…welcome to my home away from home. (:
